When is surgery the right choice?
When a cyst doesn't resolve after 2–3 cycles, is larger than 5 cm, causes symptoms, or looks non-functional on ultrasound. Many functional cysts go away on their own and don't need surgery.

Frequently asked questions
Do all ovarian cysts need surgery?
No. Functional cysts are common and usually resolve on their own. Surgery is for cysts that persist, grow, cause symptoms or look like a tumor.
Will my ovary be removed?
The goal is to keep it. It is only removed if there is no healthy tissue left to preserve, or if we decide so together for another reason.
What if the cyst isn't benign?
Before surgery we review tumor markers and imaging. If anything suggests malignancy, we refer you to gynecologic oncology so the right surgery is done from the start.
What tests do I need?
A recent transvaginal ultrasound and, depending on the case, tumor markers (such as CA-125) or an MRI.
